APCS Shield
Privacy policy
Who we are
APCS Shield is operated by A+ Computer Solutions ("APCS", "we"), a company in Belize. For anything about your personal data, email [email protected].
When a police service or a private security firm provides APCS Shield to you, that organisation also decides how your data is used for responding to your alerts. APCS processes the data on its behalf.
What we collect
- Account details: name, email, mobile number, plan and password (stored only as a one-way hash).
- Safety PINs: your cancel and duress PINs, stored only as one-way hashes.
- Medical and safety profile that you choose to add: blood type, allergies, conditions, medication, vehicle, notes.
- Emergency contacts you add: their names and phone numbers.
- Location: only while an alert is active, and for responders only while on duty. We do not track your location at other times.
- Alert records: alert type, times, status, messages with the command centre, and the actions of responders.
- Audio recordings made by the app during an alert, and any photos or video you send.
- Device information: battery level and network type during an alert, and technical logs needed to keep the service secure.
- Payment details are handled by our payment providers (or Apple and Google); we do not store full card numbers.
Why we use it
- To get help to you during an alert: showing your location, profile and recordings to the command centre and responders.
- To notify your emergency contacts that you raised an alert.
- To keep records and evidence of incidents, which may be used by police and the courts.
- To run your account and subscription, prevent misuse and false alarms, and keep the service secure.
We rely on your consent, on the need to protect your vital interests in an emergency, on our contract with you, and on legal obligations. We never sell your data and never use it for advertising.
Who can see it
- The police service or security firm that handles your alert, and the responders assigned to it. VIP clients are shown by codename until an operator accepts the alert.
- Your emergency contacts receive a text with your name and location when you raise an alert.
- Service providers that host our servers and send text messages for us, under contracts that protect your data.
- Authorities, where the law requires it.
Every time staff open an incident, it is recorded in a tamper-evident audit log.
Where it is stored
Our servers are located in [country of the server]. Where data leaves Belize, we use safeguards that give it a level of protection adequate under Belize's Data Protection Act, 2021.
How long we keep it
Account and profile data is kept while your account is open. Incident records, locations and recordings are kept for [retention period] or longer where they are needed as evidence or the law requires it. When you close your account we delete or anonymise your data, except records we must keep.
How we protect it
All connections are encrypted. Evidence files are encrypted at rest. Staff use multi-factor sign-in, each organisation can see only its own alerts, and our systems are tested for security weaknesses regularly.
Your rights
Under the Data Protection Act, 2021 you can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, have it erased, receive a copy in a portable format, or object to how it is used. Email [email protected]; we reply within [30] days. Some records may have to be kept as evidence or by law.
Children
Children under 16 may use APCS Shield only with the consent of a parent or guardian, who can set up and manage the account.
Changes
We will post any change to this policy on this page and tell you in the app before an important change takes effect.
